Maggie Brooklyn!!
This morning while going through my emails I found out about this wonderful interview by Melissa Walker with author Leslie Margolis which highlights Leslie's perspective on how the cover came to be. When people find out that I am illustrator I often get asked whether or not the author has any input or feelings on how the cover, character, etc. turns out. This interview is a wonderful, up close and informative excerpt that shows just what the journey is like from the author's side of things. Thanks so much Melissa and Leslie. It was a treat reading this!
And speaking of reading...I highly recommend you go out and get this book and get to reading it as well!
**Oh and I just found out that there is a Maggie Brooklyn website! check it out!

Libby Boom!!
OK, so I've been dying to share this story with you all for some time. It's been out since Aug. 30th but I've been so swamped with new illustration work that I haven't had the time to sit down and promote this title properly. I also recently received several copies of the book when I saw it finished, first hand for the first time. I just couldn't stop looking at it! Mostly because I just can't believe it's actually finished...and in print!
Lucky for me the fabulous Catherine Johnson, writer and owner of Wonderbook Press, is behind this book and is on the ball. She has told so much about the making of this story (particularly the writing and publishing end of it) and her journey is worth reading about here on her blog. This book has been an incredible journey for me as well...and I truly feel like Libby Boom is a part of me. I love her. I love her story...and I know you will too.
Libby boom's tale can be purchased on Amazon or at Deseret Book (where it is currently on sale for 10% off!). If you are interested in having a signed, personal copy sent to you, please feel free to contact me via email, tuesday[at]tmourning.com, and we can work something out with shipping, etc.
For those of you in the Salt Lake area, Catherine is doing a signing this Saturday, Oct. 2nd, at Deseret Book in their downtown Salt Lake store. Definitely stop by and have her sign a copy or two for you and your friends. In fact...if the stars align...perhaps I'll try to make it out there as well! Now there's a plan in the works!

Can't make the Orange County Book Fair :(
Hope to see all of you Southern California children's book lovers out there!
Sadly I won't be able to make the Orange County Book Fair singing this year. I was hoping to be able to make it back from SLC in time but it really isn't feasible. You should still all make it out there and stop by the Jacketflap booth. Should be a really great event!

getting into watercolors
I've been an acrylics/pencil/digital kind of girl for a long time now but have recently really wanted to get more into watercolor and gouache. After salivating over all my options at Blick, I finally picked up Grumbacher palette, raced home to my kitchen table and dove in.
I've been enjoying every moment so far.
I've made a goal to do one water color painting a day...so we'll see how that turns out.

Josh and Lauren wedding invites
How cute are these? I love how Josh Wangrud, designer, incorporated my portrait of the two of them in their wedding invitations. So darling! The Mandate Press in Salt Lake City Utah did the printing and everything just turned out beautifully.
